We're on an adventure!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dDKVKG3ESsk

Saturday morning we left early for our (=Damaris and my) new adventure! An elective in Chiang Mai for 2 months, at the Chiang Mai University Hospital. We did take a plane instead of a pony.

So far, so good! The travelling went very well, we got through the turbulence and got welcomed to Bangkok with thunder, lightning and rain, rain, rain. The transport from the airport is all very organized, so it took us hardly any time to get to the guest house we're staying.

So, here we are in Bangkok, trying to get unjetlagged and getting to know a bit about the culture, where we will leave for Chiang Mai tomorrow morning. There are so many impressions that I don't know where to start writing!

For one thing, the food is really good here. You need a lunch, or breakfast, elevensies or 4 o clocksies? At any random time of day there is food and there are people eating. The place is filled with many little stalls that sell food, who own a few tables and chairs, where you can just sit and order something with a smile. And then you just see and wait what's coming: rice with chicken, or noodles with pork. All very tasty, all different. It's always a surprise what it's going to be, but absolutely great. I feel a bit lost here with not knowing any Thai, but we're trying to pick up some words on the way and a smile always works.

Today we went out to explore Bangkok! The rain stopped and it's sunny and really hot. The best (and cheapest) way to get to the old centre is the boat, which is great as the breeze makes the heat more bearable. Most of Bangkok is very modern: just skyscrapers everywhere. Most of the highlights are golden or very colourful temples, with many buddha's or hinduistic deities. There are also quite a few parks to hang out and relax. To be honest; we've just been trying to get from one piece of shade to the other, walking slowly and not too far. We're still adjusting to the weather, but we've really enjoyed figuring out our way around.

Hope to write more later! Will upload some pictures soon.
